RISING: KATELIN WRIGHT
We asked her to share a personal struggle with us, and some words of wisdom on overcoming tough times.
"When I began training for my first NPC show, I quickly found myself unprepared & devastated by what I learned was a common obstacle in bodybuilding - a derailed social life.
Initially, many of my friends were excited to see me chase a longtime dream and were really supportive, but over time people became less available when they realized my lifestyle was a passion and not just a fad. Drastic lifestyle changes make people uncomfortable because they're naturally forced to look at their own behavior. It’s often difficult for friends to see you grab the reigns in your own life... Especially if they've struggled doing the same for themselves and it's easy to feel slighted by those who fall away, but I knew it wasn't that they didn't want to support me; they just didn't know how.
I learned not to allow social frustration to interfere with the goals that were most important to me. I made a plan, followed my dream, and forgave the rest.
Don’t you dare, for one more second, surround yourself with people who are incapable of loving you for YOU. If you want to fly, let go of everything that weighs you down."
